Te Tatau o Te Whare Kahu | Midwifery Council (the Council) encourages diversity and equality in its governance, organisation, and in how it undertakes its statutory functions to protect the public.

Cultural safety is a priority for the Council. The Council expects all midwives in Aotearoa New Zealand to demonstrate culturally safe practice.

Tangible measures include clear expectations and standards to ensure that cultural safety is embedded in midwifery pre-registration programmes of education, the competence standards, recertification programmes and programmes for international midwives entering practice in Aotearoa.

The Council is committed to working in a way that honours partnership and enables equity for birthing people and their whānau.
